About Lithia Springs
Lithia Springs is an unincorporated community in eastern Douglas County, 17 miles west of Atlanta. It is home to Sweetwater Creek State Park. Six Flags Over Georgia, West Pines Golf Club, and downtown Douglasville are all nearby attractions.
The therapeutic mineral waters of Lithia Springs drew many wealthy people to the area at the beginning of the twentieth century. The Lithia Springs Hotel was a famous tourist destination until it was destroyed by fire in 1912.
The Georgia Conservancy purchased Sweetwater Creek State Park for the state in the late 1960s. Visitors can fish, boat, and hike to the ruins of the New Manchester Manufacturing Company’s textile mill, which Union troops destroyed during Sherman’s march to the sea. On July 9, 1864, Sherman’s men burned down the whole town of New Manchester, including the mills.
